Exhibition preparation and restoration of the plaster sculptures
Since 2014, the sculptures and objects from the collection of the Stiftung Arp e.V. in Berlin are conserved by Claartje van Haaften. For the 300+ plaster sculptures, as well as painted wooden reliefs and bronze sculptures, conservation is more than just preserving the material. Conservation is the preservation of meaning and value of the entire collection. Working as a team, this means providing assistance and advice in the event of water damage, preparing and monitoring transport for exhibitions, and assessing and examining technical details for research. Acute restoration of cracks, flaking, fractures and losses is also carried out on the highly sensitive plaster objects. Careful attention is paid to the original traces of the artist's work, the historical working methods of the studio, and the foundries. The works on paper are conserved by qualified paper conservator Kerstin Häussermann. With the kind support of the curator and the Board of the Foundation. Photo by the author, Berlin (2022)
